Magnetic Levitation Display Stand

Museums and collectors have long used plinths and glass cases to set a prized object apart. Height and isolation tell the eye where to look. A levitation stand does the same job with nothing visible underneath. The object hangs in open air, so it becomes the focus of the shelf.

Electromagnets in the base read the position of the magnet inside the tray and correct the field continuously. The tray is 6 cm across. The stand makes no sound. It keeps running until it is unplugged. It suits scale models, brick-built models, figures, trading cards, small plants, rings, watches, eyewear, and perfume bottles. Metal objects are not suitable, since they interfere with the magnetic field. Pieces of 250 g or less hold the steadiest hover.

The base comes in four shapes. The faceted base is cut into angled planes, in black or white, and reads as a small sculpture on its own. The square and round bases come in dark or light wood grain, which sits naturally beside books and timber furniture. The square base also comes in plain black. The saucer base has a low curved profile with a light ring around its edge.
