Alabaster has been used in lighting fixtures since antiquity for its translucency. Thin sections of the stone allow light to pass through while softening and diffusing it, a property that made the material a preferred choice for oil lamps and lanterns long before electric lighting existed. The same translucency carries through in this fixture, where the LED source sits behind the marble shade rather than in the open.
The moon-round shade mounts flush against the wall, with the copper base framing the stone at the perimeter. Because alabaster is a natural material, the veining and density vary from panel to panel, so no two fixtures read exactly alike when lit. The light emerges as a soft, even glow across the face of the stone rather than a direct beam.
