The money tree is one of the oldest wealth symbols in Chinese art. Bronze money trees, known as yaoqianshu, have been excavated from Eastern Han dynasty tombs in Sichuan province, dating to the first and second centuries CE. The name translates as shaking money tree, from the idea that coins fall when the branches are shaken. Their branches were cast with rows of coin-shaped leaves.
This piece carries the tradition into a tabletop scale. The figure stands 23 cm tall and is cast in resin, with surface finishing applied partly by hand. Both colorways share the same sculpted form, with the palette shifted across the foliage.
