    Salvador Dali painted The Persistence of Memory in 1931. The canvas is small, roughly 24 cm by 33 cm, and it hangs at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The soft watches draped over a branch and a table edge became the most widely reproduced image in Surrealism. Dali attributed the forms to watching Camembert soften in the sun on a summer evening.

    This clock carries that idea into three dimensions. The dial holds a circular face at the top while the lower body curves and draws downward, so the piece hangs over whatever edge it sits on rather than standing upright. Roman numerals are printed across a single face, legible at an angle. The quartz movement runs a continuous sweep rather than a stepping tick, so no second hand is audible in a quiet room. At roughly 500 g, the upper body counterweights the draped section without adhesive or brackets.
