Transparent Resin Eagle Sculpture

Suspending metal leaf inside clear resin is a pouring technique rather than a surface treatment. Foil is introduced while the resin is still liquid and locked in place as it cures, which means the metallic flecks sit at varying depths through the body instead of lying flat on the outside. No two castings distribute the foil identically. The trade-off is that the process cannot be fully mechanized, which is why the surface work here is finished by hand.

Because the body is translucent rather than opaque, the piece behaves differently depending on what is behind it. Backlit, the resin carries color through the full depth of the form and the suspended foil reads as scattered bright points. Against a solid background it goes closer to opaque, with the foil concentrated near the surface catching most of the light. The blue holds a cooler cast and shows the foil in higher contrast; the gold runs warmer and blends the foil more closely into the body color.
